WWII Keepsake

Here is a World War II keepsake I made for one of the volunteers at work. The Picture was the one I redid that I posted last week (below). What I wanted to do was take the writing on the back of the original picture, which you can see in my HDR Toning post, and include that on the front. It is such a cool story about the two brothers meeting, I just had to do something with it. So after doing the HDR toning, I was able to out together a shorter version of the story in a quick newspaper clipping look. The whole story was to hard to read and had some words missing because the picture had been torn on one of the ends. But I was able to bring out the main scene, what was happening, where, and who they were. I think it came out really good !

Here is the latest Photo Restoration I did for one of my friends at work. Its a picture of his dad and brother meeting up towards the end of the war, after not seeing each other for a long time. I used the new advanced tools in Photoshop CS5 to help get out some of the bigger scratches and creases, as well as using the clone stamp. I then brought the color out to a traditional black and white, instead of leaving it the faded sepia/black and white color. Just recently I was asked to do a photo restoration of two brothers meeting towards the end of WWII. They had not seen each other in along time, and all 4 brothers were in the war. This image is a scan of the back of the picture which tells the story of where they are meeting, and what devision they belonged. The lower Image  is the original image I worked with. You can clearly see that the wording of the story was worn away after many years, so in order to bring out the lettering, I used HDR toning on Photoshop CS5 to bring it out and read it more clearly. I highly suggest using HDR toning if there is anything you cant read, but want to. The Photo restoration picture is coming soon. This picture was taken, and the story was typed by the U.S. Army Signal Corps. (Click on image to see more closeup)

Nikon 55-200mm VR lens

I just recently purchased the 55-200mm VR lens. This is a great addition to any camera. I have the Nikon D3000 and it works great for that ! I was out earlier shooting some nature shots and the quality of the image is great. The body is plastic which is nice because it makes it light enough to carry around. I was able to zoom in all the way to 200mm without using a tripod, or mono-pod and get very little blur in the image. The auto focus is a nice feature to have, the only prob. I have with the lens is sometimes it takes a while to focus if your zoomed in allot. To fix that, all you do is zoom out, take a step back and then try again, and it works. Overall the price, quality and ease of use for this 55-200mm VR lens is great. Highly recommended.
